With DP 6.1, ESX VMware Zero Downtime Backup (ZDB) is the recommended approach.
As stated in the summary, technical consultants occasionally encounter severe obstacles when
implementing the Advanced Backup to disk with a following copy to tape in VMware environments.
For cases when the Data Protector ESX VMware ZDB Integration is not the appropriate choice, this
document explains a possible alternate approach. The idea is to relocate a File Library or File
Jukebox from the client where the backup ran to another one which has the Tape Library attached.
After having read this document one will be able to define a local backup-to- disk, followed by a local
copy-to-tape executed by another host.
Project Description
When reading the document, one will encounter first the initial setup of our simulation. The rest of
the document with all the examples is always based on this setup.
When we’re relocating the logical devices, we’re doing it both for a File Library and a File
Jukebox.
