HP Data Protector Express 6.0 Release Notes (TC330-96001, September 2011)
boot device. Data Protector Express treats the device as a single logical media. The size of the
media is equal to the amount of available space on the device.
You can include or exclude removable devices from backup, restore, and verify jobs. They are
excluded by default. If you include removable media, any removable media that matches the
device/media criteria for a backup job might be used. The Data Protector Express Media Copy
feature is currently not selectable and therefore not supported for removable devices.
NOTE: Spanning is supported only on cartridge-based removable devices.
Removable cartridge devices
Data Protector Express defines a removable cartridge device as a device that has a fixed drive
that can write to multiple removable (ejectable) cartridges, such as an HP RDX Removable Disk
Backup System. They can be used for backup and archiving. Similar to tape devices, one Data
Protector Express media is created per removable cartridge.
Removable disk devices
Data Protector Express defines a removable disk device as a device that writes data to a disk with
a fixed amount of storage space and does not have a removable (ejectable) cartridge. Only one
Data Protector Express media is created on a removable disk device. Examples of supported
removable disk devices are USB memory sticks or FireWire/USB connected external hard disk
drives (Windows only).
Linux cannot recognize FireWire/USB connected external hard disks as removable disk devices.
They are detected like a regular disk devices and used by Data Protector Express as regular disk
devices.
