HP StoreOnce B6200 Maintenance and Service Guide (February, 2014)
To update HDD firmware
The standard rpm packages within the HP StoreOnce B6200 software upgrade cannot be used
to update the firmware of the HDDs within the P2000 storage. HDD firmware update is a manual
process that should take place when there is NO disk I/O activity over the SAS interfaces.
1. Search www.hp.com for the relevant StoreOnce Service Advisory for the location and procedure
to upgrade the HDD firmware.
For the examples in this section we are using firmware update 0008 on ST31000424SS.
2. For a single couplet cluster, this must be done onsite. For a multi-couplet cluster, it can be done
remotely, logging into each couplet separately via the Active Management Console. For onsite
repair: connect your laptop to the HP StoreOnce B6200 internal network, as described in
Onsite and offsite repair (page 14) and login to the Management VIF (10.154.1.1) as an
Admin user.
3. The couplet must be shutdown because both nodes that access the P2000 controller within
the couplet must be off. Disable failover, using the StoreOnce CLI command:
hardware disable failover
4. Check the status of failover using the StoreOnce CLI command:
hardware show node status
Look for the HA column for your couplet to ensure that the value is off.
# hardware show node status

5. Power off the servers associated with the P2000 in the couplet.
To shutdown the whole cluster, use the StoreOnce CLI command:
system shutdown
OR
hardware poweroff
NOTE: The system shutdown command powers off the cluster gracefully. The hardware
poweroff command forces a shutdown of the nodes and the deduplication stores within the
service set will not necessarily close down gracefully. This may result in a longer power up
sequence than normal.
6. Confirm that the servers are powered off, by checking the power button on the front of the
servers is Orange.
7. Using your laptop, still connected to the B6200 internal network, double click on the executable
to run the P2000 firmware flash component executable (as our example, we will use the 0008
update which is cp019925_Muskie_0008.exe).
