HP StoreOnce 6500 Backup Installation Planning and Preparation Guide

number of IP addresses that you require depends upon the number and type of subnets that you
configure, and the number of couplets that you have installed.
A management subnet is always a physical subnet and requires one virtual IP address per
cluster and one physical IP address per node.
A management + data subnet is always a physical subnet and requires one VIF address per
cluster for management, one virtual IP address per node for data, and one physical IP address
per node.
A physical data subnet requires one virtual IP address per node and one physical IP address
per node.
A VLAN subnet requires only one virtual IP address per node, there is no need to configure
a physical IP address.
It is strongly recommended that you allocate sufficient IP addresses to support a fully expanded
two-rack system (with 8 nodes), as shown in the table below, if you intend to expand your cluster
in the future. This means that you do not need to add IP addresses to your network configuration
later if, for example, you start with a one-rack system and subsequently expand it.

subnet requires one virtual IP address per node.

NOTE: StoreOnce software version 3.11.0 changes the networking model from one of five
pre-defined templates to a single, more flexible configuration file, thus removing the requirement
for contiguous IP addresses that applied to previous StoreOnce software revisions. The management
virtual IP address should be on the same subnet as the management physical ports.
Reserved IP address range
The HP StoreOnce Backup System uses the 10.154.x.x ip range for its internal network. This means
that this IP address range is not available for the customer's network. It may cause conflict and
unpredictable results if a customer network uses the 10.154.x.x ip range.
