Description of Command Function
Updates the firmware for the defined hardware type.
Command Syntax
hardware update firmware <nodeX|storageX|switchX> [force] [user]
[password]
Command Authority
Administrator
Command Object Requirements

Command Parameter Requirements
• NODE
X
– This optional parameter is used to define an individual file server node. X is a
unique numeric index defining the hardware component. It is assigned during the initial
automatic hardware initialization and configuration, and its value resides in the node_config
file. A complete list of NODEX labels can be obtained using the hardware show node
status command (see “hardware show node status” (page 80)).
NOTE: X is for multi-node products only. Use NODE without defining X for single-node
products.
• storage
X
– This optional parameter is used to define an individual storage array. X is a unique
numeric index uniquely defining the hardware component. Use odd numbers (1, 3, 5, etc.),
and it updates the partner nodes (2, 4, 6, etc.) as well.
NOTE: X is for multi-node products only; use storage without defining X for single-node
products.
• switch
X
– This optional parameter is used to define an individual switch. Use this from a node
in the cluster, and it flashes all switches in the cluster.
NOTE: This parameter is for multi-node products only.
• force – This optional parameter forces firmware actions regardless of flash recommendations.
This parameter is typically used when downgrading the firmware.
• user – This is the user name for flashing switches and is only required for a switch configured
with different credentials.
• password – This is the password for flashing switches and is only required for a switch
configured with different credentials.
Requirements for Command Execution
• The command entry must conform to command syntax.
• All parameter values must be valid. See parameter requirements for details.
Successful Command Output
Upon successful completion of the command, the firmware for a defined hardware type is updated.
