6 Maintaining P2000/MSA Array Controller components
HP Storage P2000/MSA Array Controllers service and maintenance information (a selection of
guides) can be found at:

Each controller or JBOD shelf has two arrays, each with six disks. One disk may fail in each array
without affecting system functions. The failed disk(s) should be replaced as soon as possible.
The hard disks are the only configurable parts.

Important considerations
Only the following components may be replaced while the node is online: PSUs and HDDs.
For all other components the couplet must be offline in maintenance mode even if the
components are hot-swappable in a conventional server or rack environment. This is because
the physical cabling makes it difficult to slide any unit out of the rack while it is still online;
data paths will be lost. See Putting a couplet into maintenance mode (page 21).
IMPORTANT: There is a serious risk to the data integrity of the user data should the couplet
not be placed into a quiescent state prior to the swap of a P2000 controller.
When changing controllers be sure to replace the correct one. The LED on the controller
identifies the faulty module. If you replace the wrong module, you will lose storage.
When replacing modules, such as the controller module in the backplane or I/O modules,
you must ensure that the replacement module is running the correct firmware revision for use
in the HP B6200 Backup System.

Hard disk drive (HDD) replacement
Hard disk drives are hot-swappable. Order the correct replacement part as shown in P2000
MSA/Controller configurable parts (page 29) and follow the instructions in the HP StoreOnce
B6200 Backup System user guide to replace a hard disk.
If the replacement HDD is a new HDD and not used before, the RAID will rebuild automatically.
If the replacement HDD is not a new disk and has already been used in a storage array, the system
will identify this and its status will be LEFT OVER.
To clear this, and include this drive into the RAID set:
