HP XP7 Replication Manager Configuration Guide (TK981-96012, May 2014)
DescriptionSoftware
Used to collect information about hosts and storage systems.
In conjunction with XP7 mainframe agent, Replication Manager monitors
information about configurations and statuses of copy pairs created by Peer to
Peer Remote Copy (PPRC). For details about XP7 mainframe agent, see the HP
XP7 Command View Advanced Edition Mainframe Agent Installation and
Configuration Guide.
XP7 mainframe agent
NOTE:
Do not perform concurrent operations from other applications (including HP XP7 Business Continuity
Manager) on volumes, copy groups, or copy pairs that are the target of running (or scheduled) tasks.
Doing so might result in an error.
XP7 mainframe agent versus BCM Agent
XP7 mainframe agent is installed on a pair management server and allows Replication Manager to
monitor mainframe pairs. BCM Agent is installed as part of HP XP7 Business Continuity Manager and
enables Replication Manager to manage mainframe pairs. In effect, HP XP7 Business Continuity
Manager replaces XP7 mainframe agent, with BCM Agent acting as a link with Replication Manager.
• If you are adding HP XP7 Business Continuity Manager to your storage configuration, and instances
of XP7 mainframe agent are already configured, it is not necessary to remove them.
• If you are setting up a new configuration with HP XP7 Business Continuity Manager and Replication
Manager, there is no need to install XP7 mainframe agent.
• If you are replacing an instance of XP7 mainframe agent with HP XP7 Business Continuity Manager,
HP recommends removing XP7 mainframe agent first.
Prerequisites for managing copy pairs on mainframe systems using RAID Manager
With P9500 and XP7 systems, you can manage volumes and copy pairs on mainframe systems using
RAID Manager. In this case, you must use the views and the copy pair definition wizard for open
systems. The prerequisites are as follows:
• The copy pair must consist of Continuous Access Synchronous or Continuous Access Journal.
• Multi-target and cascade configurations cannot be used.
• Neither a virtual command device nor a device group is used.
• The copy pair is not simultaneously managed by RAID Manager and HP XP7 Business Continuity
Manager. That is:
• A copy pair managed by HP XP7 Business Continuity Manager is not defined in the configur-
ation definition file of RAID Manager.
• No volumes that consist of a copy pair in a mainframe system managed by RAID Manager
are scanned by HP XP7 Business Continuity Manager, and HP XP7 Business Continuity Manager
is not aware of LDEVs that comprise the same copy pair.
• The value of server.agent.rm.centralizePairConfiguration in the server.prop-
erties file of Device Manager Agent must be set to enable. For details, see the HP XP7
Command View Advanced Edition Administrator Guide.
