The following tables list and describe system components for each type of system and provide an
overview of the software components.

A management client is a computer on which
users use a Web browser to run the GUI for Rep-
lication Manager. Replication Manager runs on
the management server.

A management server provides management
information in response to requests from
management clients. Replication Manager and
Device Manager server (a prerequisite program
of Replication Manager) are installed on the
management server.
If multiple sites are used, a management server
is required for the local site.

Usually, a host is the computer on which the
application programs are installed. HP XP7
Business Continuity Manager or XP7 mainframe
agent is installed on a host.
Note: If Device Manager server is not registered
as an information source, or XP7 mainframe agent
is being used, the information displayed by the
GUI is limited. For details, see the HP XP7
Replication Manager User Guide.
By installing HP XP7 Business Continuity Manager
(6.2 or later), you can manage copy pairs from
Replication Manager. BCM Agent (installed as
part of ) handles requests from Replication
Manager. For more information, see “XP7
mainframe agent versus BCM Agent” on page 24.
If you use the remote scan function of HP XP7
Business Continuity Manager, there is no need to
install a host (pair management server) at the
remote site.
Note: You must set up an environment prior to
performing remote scans or using pair
management functions. For details, see the HP
XP7 Business Continuity Manager User Guide.
Like a pair management server in an open system,
a mainframe system host collects management
information, including copy pair statuses and
performance information for remote copying.
Therefore, a mainframe system host is sometimes
called a pair management server.
