If you attempt to execute a command from the ordinary command prompt, a message dialog
box requesting that you elevate privileges appears.
Note that, in this case, the execution result is displayed in a new command prompt window that
is different from the command prompt window from which the command was executed. What is
worse, the new window automatically closes when the entire execution result has been
displayed.
If you choose not to elevate privileges, the command is not executed, although a return code of
0 (normal termination) is returned.
3-2 Installing Device Manager in a Windows
standard environment
This section describes the preparations for installing Device Manager, and how to perform a new
installation, an upgrade installation, and a re-installation of Device Manager.
NOTE: If you perform an upgrade installation, you cannot install Device Manager whose version
or revision is earlier than the one already installed. For example, in an environment in which
Device Manager 5.0 has been installed, you cannot install Device Manager 1.1 or an earlier
version. However, a build to which patches have been applied can be overwritten with the build
without the patches, as long as the version-revision numbers are the same. For example, after
installing a build of Device Manager 5.0 to which patches have been applied, you can install the
previous build that does not contain the patches.
The Device Manager server is installed in:
c:\Program Files\CVXPAE\DeviceManager
The XP Provisioning Manager server is installed in:
C:\Program Files\CVXPAE\ProvisioningManager
Common Component is installed in:
c:\Program Files\CVXPAE\Base
If the architecture is EM64T, the Program Files portion is replaced with Program Files
(x86). In this manual, Program Files (used for the x86 architecture) is used to describe the
default paths and the command execution examples for Windows.
NOTE: Always read the Release Notes before installing Device Manager, and make sure that you
have the minimum required microcode version on the disk array.
The Device Manager server installation CD includes the following applications:
Java2 Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
XP Command View AE Suite Common Component software
The Device Manager server software
HiRDB/EmbeddedEdition _HD0 version 7.0
Once these products are installed, Device Manager web client software can be downloaded,
installed, and updated on the client system from the Device Manager server. For more information
on using Device Manager web client, see the HP StorageWorks XP Command View Advanced
Edition software Device Manager user guide.
3-2-1 Preparations for installation
Before you start installation, check the usage status of the port numbers, the installation status of
other programs, and other information as described below.
