5 Setup for Managing Copy Pairs
This chapter discusses the following setup requirements:
The Device Manager server requirements (see section
5-1 )
Host requirements (see section
5-2 )
Disk array requirements (see section
5-3 )
RAID Manager XP requirements (see section
5-4 )
5-1 Server Requirements for Managing Copy Pairs
You can use Device Manager to control copy pairs in one of two ways:
Local management, with each host managing the copy pair(s) for the LUs recognized by that
host, or
Central management, with a single host managing all of the copy pair(s) for the LUs
recognized by multiple hosts. The
server.agent.rm.centralizePairConfiguration property file for the Device
Manager agent must be set to enable.
The disk arrays that are candidates for P-VOL or S-VOL must be managed by a single Device
Manager server.
The Device Manager server must recognize the host that has the Device Manager agent
installed.
5-2 Host Requirements for Managing Copy Pairs
If you are using central management, the Device Manager agent does not need to be installed
on all of the hosts. Device Manager need only be installed on a host that centrally manages
copy pairs, because the other hosts can recognize the copy pairs in that host. In order for the
LUs to be recognized by the host, that host must have LUN Security enabled.
The host must be able to recognize the disk array that will be used as a command device.
The host must be able to recognize the disk arrays that are candidates for P-VOL or S-VOL.
To display the copy pair status, the host must recognize the P-VOL that makes up the copy pair.
To change the copy pair status, the host must recognize the P-VOL and S-VOL that make up
the copy pair or that are a candidate for a copy pair. In the central management method, the
host that centrally manages copy pairs does not need to recognize the P-VOL and S-VOL that
make up a copy pair or that are a candidate for a copy pair.
RAID Manager XP must be installed.
The P-VOL or S-VOL pairs created by Business Copy XP must be recognizable. The S-VOL
pairs must be recognizable if cascaded.
The P-VOL or S-VOL pairs created by Continuous Access XP must be recognizable.
RAID Manager XP must have fewer than 32 running instances.
You cannot use ports 53232 through 53263.
The Device Manager agent must be restarted as part of the setup.
5-3 Disk Array Requirements for Managing Copy Pairs
RAID Manager XP must be installed and enabled.
Command Device Security must be installed. This requires Resource Manager.
RAID Manager XP must have fewer than 32 running instances.
You cannot use ports 53232 through 53263.
The P-VOL or S-VOL pairs created by Business Copy XP must be recognizable. The S-VOL
pairs must be recognizable if cascaded.
The P-VOL or S-VOL pairs created by Continuous Access XP must be recognizable.
