3-1 Overview
This document contains instructions for installing the Device Manager server software on a single
central server system. For instructions on installing and using the graphical Web Client software, see
HP StorageWorks Command View XP AE Device Manager Web Client User Guide.
CAUTION: Device Manager does not support Web Client operations that use Windows
®
terminal service.
Device Manager does not support changing the configuration of the Command View XP AE Device Manger
server and Command View XP AE Device Manager agent.
NOTE: Always read the Release Notes before installing Device Manager, and make sure that you have the
minimum required microcode version on the disk array.
NOTE: For details about the Device Manager requirements for using Provisioning Manager, Tiered Storage
Manager, or Replication Monitor, see the relevant manual for each product.

System and Media Requirements
CAUTION: Command View XP AE Device Manager does not support operations that use the terminal
service function.
IMPORTANT: The Device Manager server and agent must have the same software version to be able to
communicate with each other.
IMPORTANT: Do not install the Device Manager server in a system in which the client environment
definitions of HiRDB-related products (e.g., HiRDB/Single Server, HiRDB/Parallel Server, HiRDB/Run Time,
HiRDB/Developer's Kit, or HiRDB/Workgroup Server) are set in environment variables.
The following are the minimum suggested requirements for Windows
®
systems:
Operating system: Windows
®
2000 SP3 or later (SP4 or later for a cluster environment),
Windows Server™ 2003, Windows
Server™ 2003 with SP1 (32-bit) or Windows
®
XP SP2.
NOTE: Windows
®
95, Windows
®
98, and Windows
®
ME are not supported for the Device Manager
server.
NOTE: The Device Manager server also operates on the virtual OS of VMware ESX Server 2.5.
Browser: Internet Explorer
®
6.0 or higher. If you have Internet Explorer set to block pop-ups, set
your preferences to accept pop-ups from the Device Manager server. If you are using SSL, set
your options so that encrypted pages are not saved to disk.
