Introduction to Command View XP AE Device Manager 14
• Web Client. The Device Manager Web Client is a web-based user interface for monitoring and
managing HP StorageWorks XP Series disk arrays. It communicates with and runs as a client of
the Device Manager server. For further information on Device Manager Web Client, please refer
to the HP StorageWorks Command View XP AE Device Manager Web Client User Guide.
• Command Line Interface (CLI). Device Manager CLI enables you to perform client operations by
issuing commands from the system command-line prompt. For further information on the
command-line interface, please see the HP StorageWorks Command View XP AE Device
Manager CLI User Guide.
• Host Agent. The Device Manager agent runs on a host computer attached to HP StorageWorks
XP Series disk arrays under management by the Device Manager. The host agent collects data
on the configuration and utilization of the attached storage and sends this information to the
Device Manager server. For further information on the Device Manager host agent, please refer
to the HP StorageWorks Command View XP AE Device Manager Agent Installation and
Configuration Guide. The Device Manager agent and the Device Manager server can be
installed on the same host machine.
1-3 Command View XP AE Suite Common Component
Command View XP AE Suite Common Component is a package of features that are used by all
Command View XP AE Suite products. It is installed as part of the Device Manager installation.
Common Component is discussed in detail in section 4 . Each Command View XP AE Suite product
bundles Common Component to use the following functions:
• Single Sign-On.
• Integrated logging and repository.
• Common Web Service.

XP12000 and XP10000 only:
• SVP microcode (XP12000): Minimum = 50-01-40, Recommended = 50-03-96 or later.
• SVP microcode (XP10000): Minimum = First release version, Recommended = 50-03-96 or
later.
• Remote Web Console must be installed so that it is accessible from Device Manager.
• The following program products must be installed and running on each disk array:
• HP SNMP Agent.
• Java™ API.
• LUN Configuration and Security Manager XP.
• The following optional program products must be installed and running on each disk array if you
want to use them with Device Manager:
• Volume Management.
• External Storage XP.
• LUN Security XP Extension.
• Business Copy XP.
• Continuous Access XP.
• Continuous Access XP Journal.
• Disk/Cache Partition.
• Snapshot XP.
NOTE: If you use Device Manager to directly manage storage logical partitions, you will need a separate
Device Manager server for each partition. If you use Device Manager to link and launch Remote Web
Console, you can use a single server to manage a partitioned disk array.
