Important considerations
VMware ESX 4.0 (or later) and VMware ESXi 4.0 (or later)
When using VMware ESX 4.0 (or later) or VMware ESXi 4.0 (or later), note the following:
Device Manager:
After configuring or releasing a command device, or after changing the P-VOL or S-VOL
configuration, if the hldutil command is executed on a virtual machine, the information
displayed for the command device, P-VOL, and S-VOL might be incorrect. Check the Command
Device column in the Host window of the Device Manager GUI to confirm the command
device information. Also, check the Copy Role column in the Host window of the Device
Manager GUI to confirm the P-VOL/S-VOL information.
If the hldutil command of the Device Manager agent is executed on the virtual machine,
information about the physical WWN will be displayed. Check the World Wide Names/iSCSI
Names column in the Host window of the Device Manager GUI to confirm the WWN of the
virtual machine.
Replication Manager:
The Replication Manager command device configuration function cannot be used to set a volume
as a command device if the volume has been allocated for a virtual machine.
1. Use P9000 Remote Web Console to set the volume as a command device.
2. Use P9000 Remote Web Console to add the command device in step 1 to a VMware host
group, and ensure that a path is set for the command device.
3. Perform VMware Raw Device Mapping and ensure that the command device in step 1 is
recognized by the virtual machine.
Replication Manager Application Agent:
Replication Manager Application Agent earlier than 6.4.0-00:
When using VMware 4.0 or later, configure the backup server on a non-virtual machine.
Replication Manager Application Agent 6.4.0-00 or later:
Database servers configured on a virtual machine are supported if VMware 4.0 or later is
used. Backup servers configured on a virtual machine are supported if all of the following
conditions are met:
The backup target is SQL Server.
The secondary volume is a single generation.
On the Replica Options tab (under the Setup Agent of the backup server), the check box
Perform the following operation when finishing the setup is not selected (the default).
If these conditions are not met, configure the backup server on a non-virtual machine.
IPv6 network
Device Manager does not support an IPv6 environment. Use an IPv4 environment to manage storage
systems and hosts.
