AddPool
AddPool creates a THP/Smart pool in a targeted storage system.
NOTE:
• This command can be used only with HP XP7, P9500, and XP24000/XP20000.
• The attributes of the Pool instance, thresholdVolForewarn and thresholdVolOverwarn,
which were output as the execution results of this command, have changed to overProvision-
ingWarning and overProvisioningLimit, respectively. Check and, if necessary, revise
the script settings that you use in version 6.3 or later.
Conditions a logical unit must satisfy to be used as a THP/Smart pool volume :
• It has a capacity of 8 GB or more.
• It is not a LUSE volume.
• It is not a paired volume created with Business Copy, Continuous Access, Continuous Access
Journal, Snapshot, or Fast Snap.
• It is not an Auto LUN reserved volume.
• It is not a pool volume or a journal volume.
• It has a status of Normal or Normal(Quick Format).
• It is not a Snapshot or Fast Snap virtual volume. Alternatively, it is not a THP/Smart volume.
• It is not a system drive.
• It has a guard mode of Read/Write.
• It has an emulation type of OPEN-V.
• It is not a command device.
• It does not have a Cache Residency Manager set.
• It does not have a path.
• It does not belong to a virtual resource group.
• If more than one logical unit is specified, all of them must have the same cache mode.
The following conditions apply only to P9500 with a microcode version earlier than 70-02-00-XX/XX:
• If more than one logical unit is specified for a THP/Smart pool, internal volumes and external
volumes cannot be mixed together.
• If more than one logical unit is specified for a THP/Smart pool, all of them must have the same
RAID level.
• If more than one internal volume is specified for a THP/Smart pool, up to three types of logical
units with different drive types or rotational speeds can be used.

However, if the microcode version is earlier than 70-01-40-XX/XX, logical units that have different
drive types or rotational speeds cannot be used for a THP/Smart pool.
• To specify more than one logical unit for a Smart pool, external volumes cannot be used.
The following conditions apply only to HP XP7 or P9500 (with a microcode version of 70-02-00-XX/XX
or later):
• If external volumes are used for a Smart pool, the cache mode for the volumes must be ON.
