HP StorageWorks XP Tiered Storage Manager Server Installation and Configuration Guide (December 2005)
Overview of Tiered Storage Manager 13
• Tiered Storage Manager server
This server gives instructions for volume migration within a domain controller or within storage
subsystems connected via external storage connections, based on information provided from the
management client. Also, after migration, the server can completely erase data on the volumes.
To use the Tiered Storage Manager server, the Device Manager server must be installed on the same
server.
• Tiered Storage Manager client (Management client)
This is used by the system administrator or the host storage administrator to instruct migration to the
Tiered Storage Manager server. The instruction operation is to be performed on either the web client or
the CLI client. For details about the operations on the web client, see the HP StorageWorks XP Tiered
Storage Manager User Guide, and details about the commands for the CLI client, see the HP
StorageWorks XP Tiered Storage Manager CLI Reference Guide.
• Device Manager server
The Device Manager server is a prerequisite program for the Tiered Storage Manager server. Tiered
Storage Manager utilizes the Device Manager server to reference the structure information of storage
subsystems.
