HP StorageWorks XP Replication Monitor software installation and configuration guide (T1784-96008, November 2006)

Designing systems 21
When a user logs in to XP Replication Monitor software and then executes Link-and-Launch, the user's
authentication information is passed to other Command View XP AE Suite products the user is permitted to
use. The user does not need to re-enter the user ID and password for the other products.
Integrated logs and databases
All of the various information that Command View XP AE Suite generates is output once to an integrated
log.
All of the management information that Command View XP AE Suite maintains is also collected and
managed in a single, integrated database. Batch execution commands for backing up and restoring
management information are also provided
HBase Storage Mgmt Web Service
This is the server that executes the web services (web client) provided by the Command View XP AE Suite.
The web client for XP Replication Monitor software is also provided by HBase Storage Mgmt Web Service.
1-5-2 Device Manager
The Device Manager is software designed to enable centralized operation and management of systems made up
of multiple or heterogeneous storage subsystems. The XP Replication Monitor server collects the copy pair
configuration and other information it needs by obtaining the information that the Device Manager server has
collected and maintained in the server's database.
The Device Manager server is a prerequisite program for the XP Replication Monitor server.
For details, see the Device Manager documentation.
1-5-3 RAID manager XP
RAID Manager XP is software designed for controlling storage subsystems from open system hosts. Using RAID
Manager XP to issue commands from a host to a storage subsystem, you can control the storage subsystem's
volume replication functions (Continuous Access XP Synchronous, Business Copy XP, etc.). RAID Manager XP also
allows you to collect information about copy pair configuration and status. For details on RAID Manager XP, see
the RAID Manager XP documentation.
XP Replication Monitor server collects information about the copy pair configuration and status, and changes the
pair status, in conjunction with an agent (a XP Replication Monitor agent or Device Manager agent) and RAID
Manager XP.
1-5-4 Business Continuity Manager
Business Continuity Manager is software designed for controlling storage subsystems from mainframe system
hosts. Using Business Continuity Manager to issue commands from a host to a storage subsystem, you can collect
information about the copy pair configuration and status. For details, see the Business Continuity Manager
documentation.
XP Replication Monitor server collects information about the copy pair configuration and status in conjunction
with Business Continuity Manager.
1-5-5 Software provided with storage subsystems
1-5-5-1 Software for replicating volumes
Volume replication on HP StorageWorks XP Disk Arrays is provided by the software products Business Copy XP,
Snapshot XP, Continuous Access XP Synchronous, and Continuous Access XP Journal. XP Replication Monitor
software can collect the copy pair information defined by these replication products, and display pair status
separately for each software product.
Business Copy XP, and
Snapshot XP
Business Copy XP, and Snapshot XP duplicate volumes in the same storage subsystem. For details, see the
Business Copy XP and Snapshot XP documentation.
In the web client for XP Replication Monitor software window, Business Copy XP can appear as BC, and
Snapshot XP can appear as SN.
Continuous Access XP
Continuous Access XP duplicates volumes between storage subsystems. For details, see the Continuous
Access XP documentation.
