1-4 Possible nonstandard configurations
A system can employ XP Replication Monitor software is employed can be set up in a number of non-standard
configurations as well.
1-4-1 Nonstandard open system configurations
f you are thinking about setting up a nonstandard configuration with an open system, the considerations listed
below are important. These considerations affect the tasks and workflows that you use, and can help you choose
from the possible options.
1. Whether to install the XP Replication Monitor agent on the pair management servers
2. Whether to set up the pair management servers independently of the hosts, whether to set up the pair
management servers on the same machine as the hosts, or whether to not set up any pair management
servers
3. Whether to install the Device Manager agent on hosts that do not act as pair management servers
The following describes differences in available functionality and performance between the choices derived from
these three considerations.
Installation of the XP Replication Monitor agent.
You can collect information on copy pair status from the XP Replication Monitor agent
If the XP Replication Monitor agent is installed on the pair management server.
You cannot collect information on copy pair status from the XP Replication Monitor agent, which means that
updating information on copy pair status takes a long time, if the XP Replication Monitor agent is not
installed on the pair management server.
Setup of pair management servers.
Setting up the pair management servers independently of the hosts reduces the workload on the hosts,
because the pair management servers handle the processing for collecting copy pair information.
Setting up the pair management servers together with the hosts increases the workload on the hosts, due to
the processing required to collect copy pair information.
If there are no pair management servers, you cannot collect configuration or status information of copy
pairs from agents, nor can you change copy pair status.
Installation of the Device Manager agent on the host
You can collect IP address, mount point, and other information about the host, if the Device Manager agent
is installed on the host that does not act as a pair management server.
You cannot collect IP address, mount point, or other information about the host if the Device Manager agent
is not installed on the host that does not act as a pair management server.
1-4-2 Nonstandard mainframe system configurations
For a mainframe system, there are no special considerations that affect your tasks and workflows and influence
configuration decisions. The only points to consider are the number of sites or hosts (pair management servers) to
set up.
1-5 XP Replication Monitor software related programs
The following sections overview the functions of and provide usage notes on XP Replication Monitor software-
related programs.
1-5-1 Command View XP AE Suite Common Component
Command View XP AE Suite Common Component (also called Common Component) is a package of functions
used in common by the Command View XP AE Suite (a collective name for HP StorageWorks Command View XP
Advanced Edition software and plug-in products). It is installed as part of XP Replication Monitor software and is
provided with other Command View XP AE Suite products as well.
XP Replication Monitor software users can use the following functions from Common Component.
