6-2-3-2 Importing a Signed and Trusted Certificate
Once you receive your digitally-signed certificate from the Certificate Authority, you can use HiKeytool
to import it. Some Certificate Authorities will return your digitally-signed certificate as an attached file
with a .cer extension. Others will return the response as text in the body of an email, in which case
you should use a text editor such as Notepad or WordPad to save the response in a new file. A
digitally-signed certificate looks something like the example in
Figure 6-7.
To import a digitally-signed certificate:
1. Move the file containing the digitally-signed certificate into the Device Manager server directory.
Name the file <alias>.cer, using the alias that you have chosen for the host.
NOTE: Make sure to save the response from your Certificate Authority.
2. Open a command line or terminal window and launch HiKeytool (refer to section 6-2-1 for
instructions).
3. From HiKeytool, type 4 (Import Digitally Signed Certificate).
4. You will be prompted to enter the location of the digitally-signed certificate. If the certificate is in
the default location, press the Enter key. Otherwise, type the complete path then press the Enter
key (see
Figure 6-8).
5. You will be notified when the digitally-signed certificate has been imported (see Figure 6-9).
6. You will need to restart the server for the changes to be effective.
NOTE: You will use Web Client to connect to the server and recognize the new digitally-signed certificate.
