HP P9000 Replication Manager Software 7.3.1-00 CLI User Guide

- Copy group map file
disk group One or more logical devices can be grouped as a unit. Disk groups can consist
of one or more volumes, regardless of the capacity of the logical volumes that
comprise the disk group.
In a Veritas Storage Foundation environment, a configured disk group is
recognized as one or more disk sets, and is the minimum unit used when backing
up or restoring data.
disk set For Application Agent in a dynamic disk configuration, a disk set is a group
consisting of one or more dynamic disks and one or more logical volumes
allocated to the dynamic disks.
dynamic disk A function for creating a disk group. Note, however, that the physical disks that
make up a disk group or disk set are sometimes called dynamic disks. You can
join multiple dynamic disks to create a logical volume (dynamic volume) or split
a dynamic disk into multiple logical volumes. Application Agent supports Veritas
Storage Foundation dynamic disk configurations.
dynamic volume A logical volume created by joining or splitting one or more dynamic disks and
then assigning them.
Exchange
database
A generic name for storage groups and information stores.
failover The action of automatically switching to a backup system when an error occurs
in a system that has been duplicated (that is, multiple instances of the system
were made) using cluster software.
freezing a
database
DBMS temporarily stops I/O operations for the disk on which the database is
stored. Transactions from applications are controlled by DBMS until the database
is thawed.
If a database is frozen when a paired volume is synchronized, the primary and
secondary volumes will be identical. Backing up the database in this state will
ensure that its integrity is maintained during backup processing.
HP StorageWorks
P9000 Protection
Manager software
The predecessor product of Application Agent.
Information Store A database that is used in Exchange Server. There are two types of Information
Stores: Mailbox Stores and Public Folder Stores. Mailbox Stores hold received
email messages, attached files, folders, and documents. Public Folder Stores
hold information, such as messages and documents, that can be shared by
multiple users.
metadata Data consisting of information about other data: such as the configuration and
attributes of a file system.
pair volume In this manual, pair volume means the same thing as copy group.
RAID Manager Software used to control a storage system from a host. RAID Manager can be
used to control the volume replication function in a storage system.
storage group A method provided by Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2007 for
managing a grouping of multiple databases. Multiple databases can be managed
together since databases within the same group use a common transaction log.
