1 Preparing to install HP XP Cluster Extension Software
This chapter describes the general prerequisites for installing HP XP Cluster Extension in cluster
environments structured with HP XP disk arrays.
Installation overview
To install this product:
1. Complete the general prerequisites described in this chapter.
For more information, see “General installation prerequisites” (page 5).
2. Install HP XP Cluster Extension. For installation instructions, see “Installing HP XP Cluster
Extension Software” (page 7).
3. Complete the AutoPass licensing process.
For instructions, see “Licensing” (page 24).
Required disk space and system memory
100 MB for the HP XP Cluster Extension installation directory (%hpclx_path%). HP recommends
that at least 25 MB of system memory be available for HP XP Cluster Extension installation.
General installation prerequisites
CAUTION: If you do not meet the prerequisite conditions for RAID Manager, the HP XP Cluster
Extension installation might complete successfully, but you will not be able to complete the HP XP
Cluster Extension configuration procedures.
Before installing HP XP Cluster Extension, ensure that:
Software patches, FC adapter firmware, and drivers are the latest versions.
RAID Manager is installed and configured on each cluster node.
RAID Manager versions are the same on all nodes in a cluster.
RAID Manager command devices are configured.
RAID Manager horcmX.conf files have been created and tested.
One RAID Manager device group is configured for each disk array pair.
LDEVs are mapped to redundant CHAs, and host modes and Fibre Channel port settings have
been customized.
XP Continuous Access links (including all extender hardware) are redundant and bidirectional.
Alternate I/O paths between the server and the disk array are set up.
The cluster and client networks are redundant.
The cluster software is installed on all servers (MSFC is part of the Windows OS installation).
The cluster is set up, and clustered servers can communicate with each other .
A failover test proves bidirectional communications in the Continuous Access setup for all
configured CUs.

For Windows Server 2012/2012 R2, Failover Cluster Command Interface cluster.exe is
not installed by default when Failover Cluster feature is enabled. You need to enable Failover
