HP P6000 Cluster Extension Software Installation Guide (5697-2275, November 2012)

LUN Logical unit number. A LUN results from mapping a logical unit number, port ID, and LDEV ID to
a RAID group. The size of the LUN is determined by the emulation mode of the LDEV and the
number of LDEVs associated with the LUN.
LVM Logical Volume Manager.
management
server
A server on which HP management software is installed.
MNS Majority node set.
MPIO Multipath I/O.
MSCS Microsoft Cluster Service.
NAS Network attached storage.
port A physical connection that allows data to pass between a host and the storage system. The
number of ports on a P6000/EVA storage system depends on the number of supported I/O slots
and the number of ports available per I/O adapter. The P6000/EVA family of storage systems
supports FC ports as well as other port types. Ports are named by port group and port letter, such
as CL1-A, where CL1 is the port group, and A is the port letter.
primary site The data center location that owns the cluster group (quorum resource).
quorum In MSCS: A cluster resource that has been configured to control the cluster, maintaining essential
cluster data and recovery information. In the event of a node failure, the quorum acts as a
tiebreaker and is transferred to a surviving node to ensure that data remains consistent within the
cluster.
SAN Storage area network. A network of storage devices available to one or more servers.
SCSI Small Computer Systems Interface. A standard, intelligent parallel interface for attaching peripheral
devices to computers, based on a device-independent protocol.
secondary site The data center location with the mirror copy of the quorum disk pair.
SMI-S Storage Management Initiative Specification.
source A term used to describe the virtual disk or virtual array where an original I/O is stored before
replication.

split-brain
syndrome
A state of data corruption that can occur if a cluster is re-formed as subclusters of nodes at each
site, and each subcluster assumes authority, starting the same set of applications and modifying
the same data.
SPOCK Single Point of Connectivity Knowledge website. SPOCK is the primary portal used to obtain
detailed information about supported HP storage product configurations.
SPOF Single point of failure.
SSL Secure Sockets Layer.
SSSU Storage System Scripting Utility. An HP command line interface used to configure and control
arrays.
storage system A P6000/EVA array.

SUM Software Update Manager.
TB Terabyte. Equivalent to 1,000 Gb for data storage and statistics, or 1,024 Gb for memory.
Vdisk Virtual disk. A simulated disk drive created by the controllers as storage for one or more hosts.
The virtual disk characteristics, chosen by the storage administrator, provide a specific combination
of capacity, availability, performance, and accessibility. A controller pair simulates the
characteristics of the virtual disk by deploying the disk group from which the virtual disk was
created.
The host computer sees the virtual disk as “real,” with the characteristics of an identical physical
disk.

virtual array General term for a P6000/EVA array.
