HP Insight Cluster Management Utility v7.2 Release Notes
1 About this product
HP Insight Cluster Management Utility (CMU) is HP's hyperscale cluster lifecycle management
software, providing GUI-based control and display of a cluster as a single entity. HP Insight CMU
enables cluster-frictionless management and cloning, and offers zoom-out displays of cluster health
and performance metrics. A Linux CLI is available for script-based automation and integration with
other Linux tools.
1.1 Operating system support
HP Insight CMU v7.2 supports the RHEL5/RHEL6 and SLES11 operating systems supported by the
Cluster Platform family.
Ubuntu 12.x and 13.x are supported on the compute nodes on HP Ubuntu certified servers.
Debian is supported on the compute nodes only, but requires active approval and verification from
HP. Contact HP for support.
CentOS and Scientific Linux are supported on the compute nodes and the management nodes,
but require active approval and verification from HP. Contact HP for support.
Windows 7 SP1 is supported on HP ProLiant m700 Moonshot cartridges. Windows Server 2012
and Windows Server 2012 R2 are supported on HP ProLiant m300 Moonshot cartridges.
1.2 Compute node hardware support
This release of HP Insight CMU adds support for HP ProLiant m100, m300, and m700 Moonshot
cartridges as compute nodes.
HP Insight CMU v7.2 supports the Cluster Platform family which includes most G6, G7, and Gen8
ProLiant systems.
For example, the following Gen8 systems are supported: SL210t, SL230s, SL250s, SL270s, BL460c,
BL465c, DL160, DL385, DL380, BL685, DL360, DL560, WS460, BL420, DL160, ML350, SL4540.
IMPORTANT: HP Insight CMU does not qualify management nodes. Any server with a supported
operating system can become an HP Insight CMU management node.
NOTE: The HP CMU team regularly delivers patches to support new systems as they become
available. For hardware enablement patch announcements and validation tests, click the HP IT
Resource Center CMU Forum link on http://www.hp.com/go/icmu or contact HP for more
information. Patches are available for download from the HP Support Center at www.itrc.hp.com.
1.3 Support for non-HP servers
IMPORTANT: You must obtain a valid license to run HP Insight CMU on non-HP hardware.
The following section describes how HP Insight CMU functions with non-HP servers.
Provisioning
• autoinstall works (assumes PXE-boot support).
• Diskless works (assumes PXE-boot support).
• Backup and cloning must be tested. These processes rely on the HP Insight CMU netboot kernel
which needs the network and disk drivers for non-HP hardware. If these drivers for non-HP
hardware exist in the kernel.org source tree, then backup and cloning should work. If
backup and cloning does not work on your specific hardware, contact HP services.
