HP StorageWorks Fabric Interoperability: Merging Fabrics Based on M-series and B-series Fibre Channel Switches Application Notes (AA-RUQQL-TE, November 2009)
Supported configuration rules
For a list of supported configurations, including firmware and software versions, contact an
HP-authorized representative.
Fabric rules
The following fabric rules apply:
• Each fabric can consist of a mix of the switch models listed in Table 21 and Table 22.
• Apply fabric rules for B-series and M-series, as defined in the HP StorageWorks SAN Design
Reference Guide.
• For scalability, use the lowest common denominator approach, as described in the HP Storage-
Works SAN Design Reference Guide.
• B-series switches must utilize all default HP configuration settings, with the exception of interopmode
2 or interopmode 3.
• With Fabric OS 6.1.0a or later, B-series switches in a mixed fabric support:
• Interopmode 2 (McDATA Fabric Mode)
• Interopmode 3 (McDATA Open Fabric Mode)
• In a mixed fabric, all B-series switches must be set to the same Fabric mode. Switches with interop-
mode 2 and interopmode 3 cannot be mixed.
• M-series switches must utilize the default HP configuration settings.
NOTE:
Continuous Access and Data Replication Manager products are not supported in a merged SAN
fabric.
