HP StorageWorks B-Series Remote Replication Solution Best Practices Guide (5697-6731, June 2007)

Figure 9 Contin u ous A cces s EVA ve-fabric FCIP-router conguration
Figure 1 0 shows a combination of a 4-port EVA 8000 and 2-port EVA 6000/5000/4000/3000
conguration of a Continuous Access six-fabric solution. In this conguration, two dedicated fabrics
are implemented for replication trafc. It eliminates the fabric merging issue with a traditional FCIP
implementation and the scaling limitation of an integrated backbone fabric solution. Half the EVA
controller ports are connected to each dedicated replication fabric. Since the only devices in this
replication fabric are the replication ports of the local and remote site, Fibre Channel Routing is not
required. The benet of the MP Router over traditional FCIP gateways is that it elim inates the need for a
separa
te Fibre Channel switch as the MP Router has both c apabilities in one device.
NOTE:
HP recommends that the primary or local site in this conguration be a 4-port EVA 8000 and the
secondary or remote site can be either a 4-port EVA 8000 or 2-port EVA 6000/4000 /5000/3000.
