Chapter 4 59
Restore to a non-Exchange location and creating Recovery Storage
Group (RSG)
Data can be restored to a non-Exchange location and after that a
Recovery Storage Group can be created for the databases.
Exchange Server recognizes the Recovery Storage Group created
by Application Recovery Manager, which is called AppRM RSG.
Restore to Recovery Server
If a whole Exchange Server system is unusable, then the whole
storage group can be restored to some other Exchange Server
system (Recovery Server) and some other storage group. If the
target system is identical to original (the same host name, storage
groups names, stores names, and the same directory structure),
restore can be started as normal restore to original location. If
there are differences, then restore to a different location must be
used.
To restore to a different location, right-click the storage group or store
or logs to be restored and click Restore as. Select the target location
for all the components you want to restore.
You can restore two storage groups to both original and a different
location in the same restore session if the target restore client system is
the same.
During restore to original location, all stores in the storage group to be
restored are dismounted even if only one store from the storage group
will be restored. Stores are left dismounted after the restore.
Prerequisites
For restore to a different location, Inet must run under domain
account that has the permissions assigned to the Exchange Server
Administrators group. The account must also be a member of the
local Administrators group on that computer.
If you restore to different storage group and if there are any
dismounted stores you want to use for the restore, mount them before
the restore. Otherwise, Application Recovery Manager cannot list
them for the target selection in the GUI.
If this is done while the Application Recovery Manager GUI is
opened, you can refresh the current GUI page by clicking Reload in
the MS Exchange additional options dialog box.
