Appendix B
Known Non-Application Recovery Manager Issues and Workarounds
Appendix B B-11
• A snapshot backup of an Exchange Server 2003 database fails, and
event ID 9607 is logged. See Microsoft Knowledge Base article ID
910250 for information on how to resolve this problem.
• After a restore session, the following error is reported in the event log:
Faulting application vds.exe, version 5.2.3790.2738,
faulting module vds.exe, version 5.2.3790.2738, fault
address 0x000213c8.
This error is reported if the VDS service is not stopped correctly and
crashes. The error may be resolved with future VDS service patches.
Workaround:
To keep the service running after the restore, set the
OB2VSS_DISABLE_VDS_SERVICE_STOP omnirc variable to 1. By
default (set to 0), the service is stopped after a restore, unless it is
used by another program.
Other Non-Application Recovery Manager Issues
• Application Recovery Manager uses host name resolution to
communicate between hosts. The hosts are resolved either by using
DNS servers. If the DNS service is not available or correctly
configured on the Windows clients, you can edit the hosts or
lmhosts file, which are located in the
<%SystemRoot%>\System32\drivers\etc directory. Use the
hosts file if you want to map IP addresses to hostnames and
lmhosts file if you want to map IP addresses to computer (NetBIOS)
names. Additional information on how you can edit these files is
found in the beginning of these two files. After you have done editing,
and restart the Application Recovery Manager GUI for changes to
take effect. You must ensure that the name resolution is consistent
throughout the Application Recovery Manager cell.
