HP Application Recovery Manager software Integration guide (March 2008)

After a complete database recovery (Recover until now) when the current
control file was used in database recovery.
If you reset the logs when the Recover until option is set to Now, a warning is
displayed, stating that you should reset the logs only if you use an older control
file for restore.
NOTE:
Oracle recommends that you perform a complete backup
immediately after a database was opened with the Reset Logs
option.
Integration with third–party backup software
At restore time, Application Recovery Manager replaces datafiles of your database
with the datafiles at the time of the backup. Before restore, you have to ensure that
the latest control file is available if the current control file is lost. For database recovery,
you also have to restore the archive logs to the selected point in time.
If the datafiles were backed up to tape using third–party backup software and are
not available on a disk array and the information about the replicas is not recorded
in the ZDB database any more, the restore cannot be performed by Application
Recovery Manager. You have to restore and recover the database manually.
If database files are available on a disk array and information about the backup
session is recorded in the ZDB database, but archive logs are not available and were
backed up with third–party backup software, the database recovery can be performed
using the Application Recovery Manager GUI or CLI. When selecting database
recovery, the option to recover using an external program or script can be selected.
See Recovery options on page 127 for more information. After the datafiles are
restored, the script is called. It can restore archive logs and perform database
recovery. You can also restore the archive logs before running an Application
Recovery Manager restore session and then perform database recovery with a
program or script called by Application Recovery Manager.
Database recovery scenarios
The following are some Application Recovery Manager restore scenarios with
database recovery to the latest possible state. The scenarios assume that the most
recent control file is available and that the database is put into the STARTUP MOUNT
state before the restore. If the control file is missing, recreate it.
