Checking the TCP/IP setup
An important aspect of the TCP/IP configuration process is the setup of a hostname
resolution mechanism.
If using hosts files, located in the %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc
folder, each system in the cell must be able to resolve the address of the Cell
Manager. The Cell Manager must be able to resolve the names of all systems in
the cell.
If using DNS, make sure the local DNS server is properly configured and specified
in the IP settings for each system in the cell.
Once you have the TCP/IP protocol installed, you can use the ping and ipconfig
utilities to verify that the TCP/IP setup is correct. If you have changed the TCP/IP
settings, restart the computer first.
1. At the command line, type ipconfig /all to display the precise information
on your TCP/IP configuration and the addresses that have been set for your
network adapter. Check if the IP address and subnet mask are set correctly.
2. Type ping your_IP_address to confirm the software installation and
configuration. By default, you should receive four echo packets.
3. Type ping default_gateway.
The gateway should be on your subnet. If you fail to ping the gateway, check
if the gateway IP address is correct and that the gateway is operational.
