Boolean operators
The Boolean operators for the full text
search functionality of the online Help
system are AND, OR, NOT, and NEAR.
Used when searching, they enable you
to define your query precisely by
creating a relationship between search
terms. If no operator is specified in a
multi-word search, AND is used by
default. For example, the query
consistency check is equivalent to
consistency AND check.
BSM
The Application Recovery Manager
Backup Session Manager controls the
backup session. This process always
runs on the Cell Manager system.
catalog protection
Defines how long information about
backed up data is kept in the IDB.
CDB
The Catalog Database is a part of the
IDB that contains information about
backups restores, and backed up data.
This part of the database is always local
to the cell.
cell
A set of systems that are under the
control of a Cell Manager. The cell
typically represents the systems on a site
or an organizational entity, which are
connected to the same LAN/SAN.
Central control is available to administer
the backup and restore policies and
tasks.
Cell Manager
The main system in the cell where the
essential Application Recovery Manager
software is installed and from which all
backup and restore activities are
managed. The GUI used for
management tasks can be located on a
different system. Each cell has one Cell
Manager system.
centralized licensing
Application Recovery Manager allows
you to configure centralized licensing
for the whole enterprise environment
consisting of several cells. All
Application Recovery Manager licenses
are installed and kept on the Enterprise
Cell Manager system. You can then
allocate licenses to specific cells to suit
your needs.
circular logging (Microsoft Exchange
Server specific term)
Circular logging is a Microsoft
Exchange Server database mode, in
which the transaction log file contents
are periodically overwritten after the
corresponding data is committed to the
database. Circular logging reduces disk
storage space requirements.
