HP StorageWorks Application Recovery Manager Administrator's Guide (T4395-96004, February 2008)
Restore
Microsoft Exchange Server Writer Recovery Specifics
Chapter 460
IMPORTANT If you restore to a non-Exchange location and create RSG, check that
Recovery Storage Group does not already exist on this location. If
Recovery Storage Group already exists, it will be deleted by Application
Recovery Manager. All data stored in the existing Recovery Storage
Group will be lost.
Limitations
• Restore to an LCR or CCR storage group copy (Exchange Replication
Service instance) is not supported due to the Microsoft Exchange
limitations. Restore of an LCR or CCR copy to original location will be
performed to the original database (Exchange Information Store) and
not to the database copy (Exchange Replication Service).
• When restoring to a different location, you cannot restore a specific
database store without the transaction logs. When a store is selected
for restore, logs are automatically included for the restore.
• Only one storage group can be restored with the option Restore to a
non-Exchange location and create RSG. This is due to the
Microsoft Exchange limitation that only one RSG per server is
supported.
• You cannot mount public folders to RSG due to the Microsoft
Exchange limitations.
• All stores in a RSG must originate from the same storage group due
to the Microsoft Exchange limitations.
• If you have a CCR environment where the original database resides
on a different EVA disk array than the database copy and you
perform backup of the database copy, note that the restore of this copy
to original database will fail, because restore to a different disk array
is not supported. In this case, perform manual failover of the
databases before the restore.
• Restore to a different location is only possible using Microsoft Virtual
Disk Service.
With XP hardware provider this means that restore to a different
location is possible only after a backup in VSS compliant mode.
