HP StorageWorks Application Recovery Manager Administrator's Guide (T4395-96004, February 2008)
Appendix B
Limitations and Recommendations
Appendix BB-4
• The GUI on Windows can display a maximum 64000 items in a tree
view.
• The glossary is not available in online Help on 64-bit versions of
Windows.
• Application Recovery Manager does not support hostnames with
non-ASCII characters.
• The name of a backup specification should not exceed 64 characters.
• When changing the omnirc file, it is recommended to restart the
Application Recovery Manager services on the system. Restarting is
not required when adding or changing entries, it is required only
when removing entries.
• If you use quotes ("") to specify a pathname, do not use the
combination of a backslash and quotes (\"). If you need to use trailing
backslash at the end of the pathname, use double backslash (\\).
• The Application Recovery Manager GUI can display a limited number
of backup specifications. The number of backup specifications
depends on the size of their parameters (name, group, ownership
information and information if the backup specification is dynamic or
not). This size should not exceed 80 Kb.
• To be able to perform a backup and instant recovery, ensure that the
source volumes do not reside on GPT (GUID Partition Table) disks. If
the system where you want to install an application database has
GPT disks, convert them to MBR (Master Boot Record) disks using
the Windows Management Console. See the Microsoft Windows Help
for instructions on how to perform the conversion.
• Concurrent restores from different application systems are not
supported. For example, if you are restoring a session from system A,
you cannot start a restore from system B until the session from
system A has completed.
Recommendations
Number of Clients in a Cell
In typical environments, 100 clients per cell is a reasonable number.
The number of clients per cell should not exceed 1000.
