HP Application Recovery Manager software Integration guide (March 2008)

Restore
You can restore the Application Recovery Manager Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy
Service integration backup objects using the Application Recovery Manager GUI.
Overview
Instant recovery restores data directly from a replica to source volumes. All data in
the replica is restored (regardless of selections during backup). For instant recovery
concepts, see the HP Application Recovery Manager software concepts guide.
Restore can be performed:
Using Microsoft Virtual Disk Service (VDS)
With this method, a switch of a replica from the specified backup session with
the source volume is performed. Information about the replica is deleted from the
VSSDB, therefore, it is not possible to perform another instant recovery from that
replica. For more information about the switch method, see
Switch of disks on page 60.
In case of XP integration, this type of restore can be performed if a backup was
created with the XP provider in the VSS compliant mode.
Using a disk array integration (HP StorageWorks EVA or HP StorageWorks Disk
Array XP)
Restore using HP StorageWorks EVA
Depending on the instant recovery options you select in the Application Recovery
Manager GUI, instant recovery can be performed in three ways.
Switch of disks
With this method, the source volume is unpresented and the target volume (replica)
is presented in the place of the source volume. You can select to retain the old source
volume. However, you cannot retain the replica and perform another restore from
this backup.
Advantages
Restore is very fast.
The old source volume can be retained after restore.
