HP Application Recovery Manager software Integration guide (March 2008)
Instant Recovery
The instant recovery process depends on whether the control file and redo logs reside
on the same disk array source volume as datafiles or not:
• If this variable is set to 0 (default), during a backup session, Application Recovery
Manager creates target volumes only for the source volumes containing Oracle
datafiles. Target volumes for source volumes containing Oracle control file and
Oracle online redo logs are not created.
For Oracle backup and restore concepts when this variable is set to 0, see
“Integration concepts” on page 88.
• If this variable is set to 1, Application Recovery Manager creates target volumes
for all source volumes containing Oracle datafiles, Oracle control file, and, Oracle
online redo logs.
IMPORTANT:
If the ZDB_ORA_INCLUDE_CF_OLF variable is set to 1 the control files and redo logs
are overwritten during instant recovery.
Opening the Database on the Backup System
To successfully open the database on the backup system for other purposes than
Application Recovery Manager, set this variable to 1.
Prerequisites
The prerequisite for this variable to be set to 1 is:
• Oracle datafiles, Oracle control file, and Oracle online redo logs are all installed
on a disk array; they must not be installed anywhere on the network. Oracle
datafiles on one hand, and Oracle control file and Oracle online redo log files
on the other are not installed on the same disk image, logical volume, or filesystem.
See Figure 53 on page 199 for Oracle backup and restore concepts when this variable
is set to 1.
