The HP 9000 rp8420 servers are 17 U
1
high, 16-socket symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) rack-mount,
or stand-alone servers that accommodate up to 128GB of memory, PCI-X I/O, and internal
peripherals including disks and DVD or tape drives. High-availability features include N+1
hot-swap fans and power, redundant power cords, and hot-plug PCI cards and hard disk drives.
Both 900 MHz and 1 GHz processor speeds are available. Features of the server include:
Up to 128GB of physical memory provided by dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs).
Up to 32 processors with a maximum of eight processors per cell board with a maximum
of four cell boards. There are four processor module sockets per cell board and each socket
will accept a dual-core processor so each cell can hold up to eight processors.
One cell controller (CC) per cell board.
All CPUs and cell controllers on the cell boards are cooled with turbo cooler fans.
Four embedded hard disk drives. Available sizes are 36GB, 73GB, and 146GB drives.
Two internal DVD drives or one DVD drive and one 40GB DDS-4 DAT drive.
Nine front chassis mounted N+1 fans.
Twelve rear chassis mounted N+1 fans.
Six N+1 PCI-X card cage fans.
Six N+1 bulk power supplies.
Two PCI power supplies.
Sixteen PCI-X slots divided into two partitions. Each partition can accommodate up to eight
PCI cards.
Two core I/O cards.
Four 220 VAC power plugs. Two are required and the other two provide power source
redundancy.
