3 Upgrading th e Enterprise Virtual

Array

The following steps guide you through the process of upgrading the system software. Ensu re that you

follow them carefully and in the speciﬁed order. Table 9 on pa ge 42 provides a checklist so you can

track your progress as you per form the upgrade. Make sure you have all the items indicated before

beginning the upgrade.

Upgrading remotely versus locally

You can per form the upgrade from a local server or from a remote server. Some advantages to

performing the upgrade locally include:

• Enables you

to view the various status indicators on the storage system hardware to ensure

everything is working properly.

• Provides access to the controller operator control panel (OCP) to clear storage system passwords

and to moni

tor messages.

• Reduces the amount of time involved during ﬁle transfers. The shorter distance over the network

the code ﬁles must travel, the faster the transfer will occur.

Solving upgrade problems

If you experience any problems when performing the XCS upgrade procedure, see
