3PAR Replication Adapter 4.x for VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager Implementation Guide

1 Introduction
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager is a management and automation product that helps
build, manage, test and execute disaster recovery plans for a VMware virtual infrastructure. The
HP 3PAR Storage System, as the storage component in a VMware virtual infrastructure, holds
virtual machine information for a protected site/location. HP 3PAR Replication Adapter, developed
by HP 3PAR for VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager, is an important integration component
that talks to storage system to execute specific storage and Remote Copy functions needed for
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager operation. When a vCenter Site Recovery Manager
failover recovery plan is executed, all virtual machines are failed over to another HP 3PAR Storage
System at a recovery location through HP 3PAR Remote Copy. Similarly, all virtual machines are
failed back to the original HP 3PAR Storage System at the protected location through HP 3PAR
Remote Copy whenever a failback recovery plan is executed. To accomplish a failback operation,
HP 3PAR Remote Copy reverses an HP 3PAR Storage System’s role at the protected site and at the
recovery site after a failover. As a result, a vCenter Site Recovery Manager failback with a storage
system is achieved using the existing HP 3PAR Remote Copy reverse failover capability with some
cleanup at the protected site.
This document provides relevant information for installing and configuring the HP 3PAR Replication
Adapter for VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager. This document also addresses relevant
information for the HP 3PAR Remote Copy configuration so that the HP 3PAR Replication Adapter
can execute specific HP 3PAR Remote Copy functions to build, manage, test and execute disaster
recovery.
This information should be used along with the documentation set provided by HP for the storage
system, InForm OS, InForm CLI for Windows, and the documentation provided by VMware for
vCenter, Site Recovery Manager and other related products.
