Failback
HP 3PAR Replication Adapter 4.0.1 for VMware Site Recovery Manager Implementation Guide
11.0 Failback
Failback is a reverse of a failover and a process in the VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager
when the recovery site virtual infrastructure is replicated back to the protected site. During
failback, the original recovery site acts as the protected site and the original protected site acts
as the recovery site.
11.1 Preparation before Failback
1 At the new protected site:
a Delete the failover recovery plan.
b Optional. It is assumed that the appropriate array replication prerequisites for the new
protected site to the new recovery site is established that the datastore(s) containing
failover virtual machines that are going to participate in failback. It not, add virtual
volumes corresponding to datastore(s) in the Remote Copy volume group by issuing the
admitrcopyvv command on the storage system.
Refer to HP 3PAR Remote Copy User Guide for additional information on how to setup
HP 3PAR Remote Copy.
c Establish appropriate connection between two sites, configure Inventory Mappings and
Array Managers.
d Create the protection groups.
2 At the new recovery site:
a Delete failover protection group.
b Remove failover virtual machines from the inventory.
c Run showvlun command at the new recovery site HP 3PAR Storage System to see the
current LUN exposure and ensure that at least one active LUN is visible (an exposure can
be made to any host). If a LUN is not exposed, you must create at least one LUN via
createvlun command.
d Rescan the storage adapters.
e Create a failback recovery plan at the new recovery site.
