System and security patch requirements
The system administrator privileges of vCenter Server is required for plug-in registration. For information
on VMware vCenter Server patch requirements, see VMware’s release notes for vCenter Server.
RMV requirements
To download the HP 3PAR Management Plug-in, the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in must be installed on
the computer running the vSphere Client.
HP 3PAR Management Plug-in and Recovery Manager Software for VMware vSphere requires a
snapshot area for each volume that needs to be backed up. Snapshot space for a new Virtual Volume
must be manually allocated as a Copy CPG must be assigned to Virtual Volumes that are to be used
for creating Datastores. This is accomplished by mapping the snapshot space to a Common Provisioning
Group (CPG). For more information on Virtual Copies and the allocation methods for snapshot space
of a Virtual Volume, see the HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage Concepts Guide and HP 3PAR Command
Line Interface Administrator’s Manual. If the volume is provisioned through HP 3PAR Management
Plug-in, select a template that includes snapshot CPG.
Pre-requisites
• Admin privileges to access the administration tool and the scheduler.
• VMware Tools must be installed on the Guest OS to successfully create VSS-based application
consistent Virtual Copies.
Provisioning
HP 3PAR Management Plug-in and Recovery Manager 2.5.0 Software for VMware vSphere provisioning
functions provide an easy way to provision Virtual Volumes from vCenter. However, this is not a
replacement for provisioning using the HP 3PAR Management Console. If your provisioning requires
specific attributes, then consider using the HP 3PAR Management Console. The following capabilities
and attributes are supported while provisioning new and similar volumes with HP 3PAR Management
Plug-in and Recovery Manager 2.5.0 Software:
• User CPGs
• Copy CPGs
• Volume size
• Snapshot allocation warnings
• Snapshot allocation limits
• User space allocation limits
• Zero Detect
NOTE: The Provision New feature for vSphere Client depends on the VV templates created on
the array. Therefore, the template must be created with User Space and Copy Space assigned.
