Restrictions on Volume Size and Number
Follow the guidelines for creating virtual volumes (VVs) and Virtual LUNs (VLUNs) in the HP 3PAR
Command Line Interface Administrator’s Manual while adhering to these cautions and guidelines:
• Apple OS X requires that LUN 0 is present.
• This configuration supports sparse LUNs (meaning that LUNs may be skipped except 0). LUNs
may also be exported in non-ascending order (e.g. 0, 5, 7, 3).
• The ATTO driver on an Apple OS X host supports LUNs in the range from 0 to 254.
• The maximum LUN size that can be exported to an Apple OS X host is 16 TB when the installed
HP 3PAR OS version is 3.1.x. The maximum LUN size supported by an HFS+ filesystem is
close to 8 EB.
Discovering Devices with an ATTO HBA
Starting with ATTO driver version 2.30MP, support was added to manually rescan paths to discover
new LUNs. Older drivers require a host reboot to ensure discovery of new LUNs.
To initiate a manual rescan, run the following command:
# /Applications/ATTO/CelerityFC8/atmpcfg -q
NOTE: The directory under /ATTO depends on the card in use. The example above shows a
Celerity 8G HBA. For a 16G HBA, drivers are installed under: /Application/ATTO/
CelerityFC16
