HP 3PAR AIX and IBM Virtual I/O Server Implementation Guide

Specific cabling setup and connectivity guidelines need to be followed for HP 3PAR OS Persistent
Ports to function properly:
HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage FC partner ports must be connected to the same FC Fabric and
switch.
The FC fabric being used must support NPIV, and NPIV must be enabled.
The host–facing HBAs must be configured for point-to-point fabric connection (there is no
support for direct-connect “loops”).
HP 3PAR OS Persistent Ports Limitations
When the FC target port fails over to its partner port as part of the HP 3PAR OS Persistent Ports
feature, I/O will be redirected by the HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage to the partner port. During the
persistent port failover, an AIX host may detect and report a temporary path loss in the AIX errpt
log. This applies to HP 3PAR ODM installations as well as to Symantec Storage Foundation/DMP
installations with AIX and HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage.
The HP Persistent Ports feature is not supported with iSCSI.
