Reclaiming Unused LD Space
InForm OS Version 2.2.4 3PAR InForm OS CLI Administrator’s Manual
usr_cpg <CPG_name> is the name of the CPG created previously in step 1.
<CPVV_name> is the CPVV you are modifying.
3 Tune the snapshot space of the volume by issuing the
tunevv snp_cpg <CPG_name>
<CPVV_name>
command.
snp_cpg <CPG_name> indicates the CPG to where the snapshot space is moved.
<CPVV_name> is the CPVV you are modifying.
15.8 Reclaiming Unused LD Space
When creating volumes with createvv or createaldvv and the -cnt option, logical disks
are shared by multiple virtual volumes. Over time, as volumes are deleted, logical disks become
less efficient in terms of space. These logical disks contain unused space that is not available for
use by the system in creating new logical disks.
You can use the
tunevv and tunealdvv commands to reclaim unused logical disk space by
compacting logical disks and freeing up disk space so that it can be reclaimed for use by the
system.
See 15.8.1 Tuning Volumes Individually on page 15.12 for instructions on how you can tune
this group of volumes so that they do not share logical disks and so that their underlying
logical disks do not have any unused space.
See 15.8.2 Tuning a Group of Volumes with Shared LDs on page 15.12 for instructions on
how you can tune this group of volumes so that their shared logical disks are completely
compacted.
Additionally, you can also reclaim unused CPG space by compacting CPGs and freeing up disk
space. As volumes are created and removed, CPGs can also become less efficient in terms of
space, and as a result, space can be wasted. You can use the
compactcpg command to free
CPG space. See 15.8.3 Compacting CPGs on page 15.13 for instructions on compacting CPGs.
