Virtual Volumes and Domains
3PAR InForm OS CLI Administrator’s Manual InForm OS Version 2.2.4
7.13 Virtual Volumes and Domains
3PAR Virtual Domains allows you to create and manage VVs belonging to domains just as you
would VVs in 3PAR systems not using domains.
7.13.1 Creating Virtual Volumes in a Domain
If you are using 3PAR Virtual Domains, you can create domain-specific VVs which are accessible
only by those users with privileges to that domain. You must be a super or edit level user in the
all domain in order to create a domain VV. Additionally, VVs are created by allocating
resources from CPGs existing within a domain. In other words, a CPG must first exist in the
domain in which you wish to create a VV before you can create that VV. For instructions on
creating domain CPGS, see 7.13.6 Creating a Common Provisioning Group in a Domain on
page 7.20.
Refer to the InForm OS Concepts Guide and the
createvv command in the InForm OS
Command Line Interface Reference for additional information about this restriction.
X To create a VV within a domain, issue the createvv <usr_CPG> <VV_name> <size>
command, where:
-snp_cpg <CPG_name> is the name of the CPG from which the created volume will
draw its snapshot administration and data space.
<user_CPG> is the name of the domain CPG from which the created virtual volume’s
user space is drawn. For instructions on creating domain CPGS, see 7.13.6 Creating a
Common Provisioning Group in a Domain on page 7.20.
<VV_name> is the name of the virtual volume being created.
<size> is the size of the volume in MB, specified as an integer from 1 to 2096128 (you
can also specify the size in gigabytes by following the integer with g or G).
For additional arguments available for the
createvv command and details on how to use
them, see the InForm OS Command Line Interface Reference. For information about 3PAR
Virtual Domains, refer to the InForm OS Concepts Guide.
NOTE: 3PAR Virtual Domains requires the use of the 3PAR Virtual Domains
license. Contact your local 3PAR representative for further details.
