InForm OS Version 2.3.1 3PAR InForm Operating System Release Notes
2.5 What’s New in the InForm OS
New features included in the 3PAR InForm OS Release 2.3.1 are described below.
2.5.1 3PAR InForm Software
3PAR’s new Inform Operating System 2.3.1 enables customers to increase efficiency and
increase agility with several new features and enhancements. The new InForm OS 2.3.1
features include the following benefits:
■ Efficiency and capacity reduction with new Thin features.
■ Resiliency to protect against hardware, software, and site failures.
■ Automation/Mobility to eliminate repetitive and error-prone administrative tasks.
■ Security and compliance requirements for protecting and retaining regulated data.
2.5.2 Thin Technologies for Efficiency and Capacity Reduction
2.5.2.1 Thin Conversion
Thin Conversion converts a traditional fat volume to a thin space-efficient volume. The 3PAR
Gen3 ASIC assists in detecting contiguous pages of zeros and reclaiming the space. Thin
Conversion is available on industry leading InServ F-Class and T-Class Storage Servers with
Thin-built-in ASIC technology. Thin Conversion is separately orderable software.
2.5.2.2 Thin Persistence
Thin Persistence keeps thin provisioned virtual volumes thin by reclaiming space on the
existing thin provisioned volume. The 3PAR Gen3 ASIC assists in detecting contiguous pages of
zeros and reclaiming the space. Thin Persistence is available on industry leading InServ F-Class
and T-Class Storage Servers. Thin Persistence is separately orderable software.
2.5.2.3 Thin Copy Reclamation
3PAR Thin Copy Reclamation provides for online thinning or space reclamation of existing thin
copies (user created virtual copies or system created virtual copies that are used by Remote
Copy and Full Copy with fast resynchronization option). Thin Copy Reclamation allows space
recovery when a snapshot is deleted. Thin Copy Reclamation is available as part of InForm OS.
