8.3 Installing the Host OS for a SAN Boot
Installation of the AIX 7.1/6.1/5.3 operating system is supported when it is booted from the
InServ Storage Server. No special requirements except for the installation of 3PAR MPIO v2.2
for AIX are needed to install the AIX 7.1/6.1/5.3 OS boot volume on InServ. Follow all
recommended settings and guides as covered in this document.
AIX host boot is supported by the InServ Storage Server. To install the AIX operating system on
InServ Storage Server volumes, complete the following steps:
1 Configure the InServ Storage Server for the AIX system. See 2.1 Configuring the InServ
Storage Server Running InForm OS 2.3.X and 4.2 Exporting VLUNs to the AIX Server.
2 Boot the AIX server or LPAR, and complete the following tasks:
a Select the InServ LUN from the IBM SMS Menu.
b Follow the standard procedure as outlined by IBM for installing AIX on a bootable
device (For details, see IBM AIX documentation).
c Install the AIX operating system on the selected InServ volume.
3 Reboot the AIX system. The InServ Storage Server volume is configured with the AIX
default PCM.
4 Install the 3PAR MPIO 2.2 for IBM AIX by completing the following tasks:
NOTE: During the installation phase, restrict the number of paths to the Inserv
Storage Server AIX boot volume to a maximum of one.
NOTE: Once 3PAR MPIO 2.2 for IBM AIX has been installed, it cannot be de-
installed for a host boot disk.
NOTE: This installation must be performed by a user logged into the AIX system
as the superuser or with root privileges.
