1 Getting started HP Hotkey Filter is a security utility for HP thin clients based on Windows® Embedded. In many thin client deployments, access to the local Windows desktop and the local Windows file system is not necessary and might be undesirable. This utility allows a user to lock and unlock their remote desktop session without affecting the local Windows instance, which helps simplify deployment.
Installing and enabling HP Hotkey Filter HP Hotkey Filter is available as an add-on at http://www.hp.com/go/hpsc (search for the thin client model and see the Drivers & software section of the support page for that model). After HP Hotkey Filter is installed on the system, it must be enabled by using the following procedure: 1. Select Start > Control Panel > HP Hotkey Filter. TIP: If viewing the Control Panel as categories, select Start > Control Panel > System and Security > HP Hotkey Filter.
2 Known issues and limitations HP Hotkey Filter is intended for kiosk-style deployments. Standard users should not have access to the thin client hardware or be able to connect or disconnect peripherals of any kind. In addition, there are some technical limitations to consider: ● HP Hotkey Filter supports both PS/2 and USB keyboards, but only one keyboard can be filtered at a time. ● If a keyboard is disconnected and reconnected to the thin client during the session, then it will not be filtered.
A Registry keys location HP Hotkey Filter stores its configuration data in the Windows registry. The following path is the toplevel registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\hpkbfiltr 4 Appendix A Registry keys location
