HP StorageWorks 9100 Extreme Data Storage System release notes V1.0.2 (AN540-96015, June 2009)

6. If you are updating from an HP ExDS9100 1.0 system, you must update the firmware now. Follow
steps 7 through 16 below.
If you are updating from an HP ExDS9100 1.0.1 system, no further action is required.
7. Shut down the system so that only the first server is running in single user mode as follows. This
process is described in chapter 5 of the HP StorageWorks Extreme Data Storage System 9100
administration guide.
If the system exports filesystems using NFS, disable all export groups. If you use the standard
exds_expd_default export group, disable it as follows:
# mx exportgroup disable exds_expg_default ALL_SERVERS
If the system is serving web services, disable virtual host IP addresses as follows:
a. Identify the virtual host (vhost) IP addresses using the exdsmgr show matrix command.
b. Disable each virtual host:
# mx vhost disable 16.123.123.1
where 16.123.123.1 is the virtual host.
CAUTION:
Do not disable the exdsadmin virtual host (normally 192.168.0.1). If you do so, the
exdsmgr command will not function normally.
c. Shut down all servers except for the first server as shown in the following example:
# exsmgr shutdown server 2-16
d. Shut down the first server to single user mode. You must use the TFT monitor keyboard
when you switch to single user mode; otherwise, your session will be disconnected. To
go to single user mode, run the command:
# init 1
8. Update the firmware on the ExDS9100c enclosures, and the disk drive firmware as follows. Do
not update the firmware on the ExDS9100cx I/O modules until a later stage.
a. To update the firmware on the ExDS9100c enclosures, run the following command:
/opt/hp/mxso/firmware/exds9100c_scexe -s
The command will offer to update all visible storage units. You are prompted to confirm the
update of each device in turn.
b. Update the disk drive firmware as follows:
# /opt/hp/mxso/firmware/sbdisk_scexe
The disk drive update utility, sbdisk_scexe first prompts to run a discovery of disks. During
discovery, which might take several minutes, it enumerates all paths to all devices and then
reports the number of disk drives that are candidates for the firmware upgrade. Upon com-
pletion of discovery, it then prompts to confirm the flashing of disk drives if any need updating.
Once confirmed the drives are then updated serially.
c. When the exds9100c_scexe and sbdisk_scexe commands are finished, power off all
ExDS9100c and ExDS9100cx enclosures.
d. Power on all ExDS9100cx enclosures.
e. Power on all ExDS9100c enclosures.
