System components
HP ExDS9100 Storage System includes the following components:
HP ExDS9100 performance chassis (c-Class blade chassis, server
blades, and blade infrastructure)
Redundant SAS switch pair in the blade chassis
Storage block (array) (minimum of one) comprised of:
HP ExDS9100c (Array controller chassis and 12 disk drives)
HP ExDS9100cx (Disk drive enclosure containing 70 drives in
two drawers. Also known as the HP StorageWorks 600 Modular
Disk System [MDS600].)
ProCurve 2124 network switches
Software for manageability, clustered filesystem, and file serving
Planning the installation
Structural requirements
Ensure that your site can support the weight of your HP ExDS9100
system. For HP ExDS9100 weight details, see the QuickSpecs at h

Space and airflow requirements
To enable servicing and ensure adequate airflow, observe the following
spatial requirements when deciding where to install an HP ExDS9100
system:
Leave a minimum clearance of 63.5 cm (25 inches) in front of the
rack.
Leave a minimum clearance of 76.2 cm (30 inches) in back of the
rack.
Leave a minimum clearance of 121.9 cm (48 inches) from the back
of the rack to the rear of another rack or row of racks.
The HP ExDS9100 cabinets draw cool air in through the front and expel
warm air through the rear of the cabinet. Therefore, the front of the
cabinet must be adequately ventilated to enable ambient room air to
