share. The first server listed is the primary server. The application ‘CIFS’ is simply a label, it will appear
in mxconsole. If you are using another network other than ext2, change the names as appropriate.
Step 8 — Configure a CUSTOM service monitor
This monitor watches the Samba service on the primary server and controls Samba start and stop
operations when the virtual host fails over to a backup server. The following example shows how to
create a CUSTOM monitor for the grp1 virtual Samba share:
Log files for Samba service monitor operations
HP ExDS9100 generates log files for Samba service monitor operations. These files can be useful
when investigating issues with Samba and are located in the /var/log/polyserve directory.
There are separate files for the Probe, Start, and Stop operations. For example:
• 99.12.10.205-CUSTOM.139-probe.log
• 99.12.10.205-CUSTOM.139-start.log
• 99.12.10.205-CUSTOM.139-stop.log
Managing Web services
There are two aspects to managing Web services:
• Managing virtual host IP addresses associated with Web services, using the following exdsmgr
tasks to manage virtual hosts:
• Creating VHTTPD
• Viewing VHTTPD
• Modifying VHTTPD
• Deleting VHTTPD
• Managing Apache configuration, described in Managing Apache configuration options.
