HP StorageWorks 9100 Extreme Data Storage System administration guide V1.0.2 (AN540-96018, February 2010)
Because this is the first time that the mxfs_cifs RPM is installed, you can ignore the message telling
you to reboot the servers.
Step 3 — Create /var/mxso/samba/conf directory
The Samba configuration files should be the same on all servers. As a convenience, you can put the
configuration files into /var/mxso/samba/conf directory and make symbolic links as described
in the next section. To create the /var/mxso/samba/conf directory, use the following command:
# mkdir –p /var/mxso/samba/conf
NOTE:
Do not create a symbolic link from /etc/samba to /var/mxso/samba/conf. This would make
the /etc/samba/smb.conf the same on all servers. This is not correct. The HP ExDS system modifies
the smb.conf file on each server depending on which virtual Samba hosts are active on the server.
Step 4 — Create the Samba configuration files
Samba is configured via the smb.conf file. When Samba is used with HP ExDS, you need to configure
two versions of the file:
• /var/mxso/samba/conf/smb.default. This file is used on servers that are not currently
hosting a virtual Samba server. For example, a server is being used as a standby server for Samba
or the virtual host has been shut down for some reason. The file is copied over any smb.conf
file in the /etc/samba directory.
• /var/mxso/samba/conf/smb.conf.<virtual-server>. The configuration file for a par-
ticular virtual Samba server. Create a separate smb.conf. smb.conf.<virtual-server>
file for each virtual Samba server and ensure that the file’s suffix matches the virtual Samba server
name.
