HP StorageWorks 9100 Extreme Data Storage System administration guide V1.0.2 (AN540-96018, February 2010)

NOTE:
Do not run the exdsmgr shutdown command on the server you are shutting down because
you will lose contact with the command as the shutdown advances. However, the shutdown will
complete normally. If you shut down a group of servers that includes the server where the exdsmgr
command is running, the other servers are shut down first, and then finally the server where the
exdsmg command is running is shut down.
2. Boot the server blade, using the boot server command as shown in the following example
# exdsmgr boot server glory3
where glory3 is the server blade to boot.
It is safe to use theboot server command on a server that is already up and running.
Shutting down an HP ExDS9100 system
To completely shut down the HP ExDS9100 system:
1. Log in to the first server, if it is running. If the first server is not running, log in to the lowest
numbered running server.
NOTE:
This action is not necessary for a successful shutdown. However, it allows you to monitor the
shutdown process for longer (before the server running exdsmgr shuts down itself).
2. Run the exdsmgr shutdown server command as shown in the following example:
# exdsmgr shutdown server 1-16
Shutting down to a single server
There are several situations where it is useful to shut down all servers except for the first server. For
example, this is necessary when updating firmware on a storage block. To shut down all servers
except the first server, follow this process.
NOTE:
The purpose of disabling exports groups and vhosts is to prevent the first server from being overloaded
when the remaining servers are shutdown. If your application load is low you might be able to omit
these steps.
1. If the system exports filesystems using NFS, disable the export groups. If you use the standard
exds_expd_default export group, you can disable it as follows:
# mx exportgroup disable exds_expg_default ALL_SERVERS
2. If the system is serving web services, disable virtual host IP addresses as follows:
a. Identify the virtual host (vhost) IP addresses using the exdsmgr show matrix command.
b. Disable each virtual host:
# mx vhost disable 16.123.123.1
